Wakestock 11 kicked off in typical fashion by once again pushing the world’s top pros to the highest level of competition with the biggest and most challenging rail course of the year. “This is the biggest, tech-est course yet”, said long-time Wakestock rail course designer Pat Pankos of Florida’s Wake Park Project. Featuring three massive rails ranging between 90 and 105 feet in length, plus two smaller hits, the challenge was met by several riders. Leading the charge was three-time defending Wakestock rail champion Keith Lidberg of Florida who stomped a near perfect run, followed closely was Canada’s Aaron Rathy.
Friday’s Billabong Railslide heat winners featured an allstar line-up of top pros: Keith Lidberg, Aaron Rathy, Shane Bonifay, Shawn Watson, Colin Harrington, JD Webb, Jimmy Lariche, and Jeff Weatherall. Also qualifying through to the quarter-finals was Rusty Malinoski, Adam Errington, Kevin Henshaw, Erik Ruck, Trevor Hansen, Raphael Derome, Yannick Thibault and Didier Godbout.
In the Malibu Pro Expression Session World Series Qualifier Philip Soven and JD Webb continued their one-two battle from this season’s US Pro Tour with the top two runs of the day. Other heat winners included: Rusty Malinoski, Chad Sharpe, Dean Smith, Daniel Watkins, Trevor Hansen, and Andrew Adkison. Also qualifying through to the Wakestock quater-finals were Aaron Rathy, Tino Santori, Jimmy Lariche, Oliver Derome, Mikey Ennen, Adam Erington, Padiwat Jaemjan, and Raphael Derome.
